Person wandering on NYC subway tracks delays Thursday night commutes

A deranged person darting down the subway tracks for nearly an hour caused rush hour chaos in Manhattan on Thursday — as officials had to cut power to the third rail.

The delays began at around 5:40 p.m., after the individual was spotted on the tracks at 34th Street-Herald Square station.

By 6:15, the MTA completely had shut down power between the 23rd Street and East Broadway stations in an effort to catch the person, an MTA source confirmed to The Post.

As a result of the incident, B, D, F and M trains were re-routed to the A, C and E lines, the agency posted on Twitter, and some Queens-originating F trains skipped Manhattan entirely by using the G line between Court Square and Bergen Street.

“We strongly recommend that you take 2/3, 4/5, or Q train service to/from Brooklyn, if possible,” @NYCTSubway tweeted.

The individual was caught at Herald Square at around 6:30 and taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation, NYPD said.
